Rebecca McDaniels is the founder and a co-director of bklyn speech. She is a neurodiversity-affirming therapist who believes that above all else, therapy should be child-centered and individualized to meet the needs of every child and family. She aims to create a comfortable, compassionate and therapeutic atmosphere for children and families where everyone plays a unique role on the child’s team. Rebecca strives to make sessions fun, engaging and functional so that children develop their speech and language skills as quickly and naturally as possible while doing what they do best, PLAY.
Rebecca works with a wide range of populations however she specializes in the treatment of complex speech disorders such as childhood apraxia of speech, dysarthria, cleft palate, velopharyngeal insufficiency and other severe articulation/ phonological disorders. Rebecca is recognized by “Apraxia Kids” (CASANA) as a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). She is highly trained in a variety of techniques such as PROMPT, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST) and Ayres Sensory Integration.
Rebecca is ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) Certified and holds a TSSLD (Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities) certification. She has served as an adjunct instructor with TC, Columbia University’s graduate school program and has also provided therapy abroad as a clinical supervisor with the same program. Rebecca received her Bachelor of Science degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences with minors in Special Education and Human Development from the University of Maryland. She received her Master of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from TC, Columbia University.
